- Fig. 1 Display: Warning message with symbol and text
Applies to vehicles: with tyre pressure monitoring
The tyre pressure monitoring display in the instrument cluster informs the driver if the tyre pressure is too low or a system malfunction has occurred.
The tyre pressure monitoring system makes use of the ABS sensors to compare the rolling circumference and the vibration of the wheels. If changes in the tyre pressure are detected on one or more wheels the driver is alerted by an indicator lamp or and a message in the instrument cluster display Fig. 1. If only one tyre is affected, the display will indicate its position.
Each time you change a tyre, change the wheels round or change the tyre pressures on your vehicle (switching from partial load to full load), you must store the new tyre pressures via the sound system or MMI* Link. The tyre pressures recommended for your vehicle are given on the sticker on the end face of the driver's door Link.
The rolling circumference and vibration can change and cause a tyre pressure warning if:
- The inflation pressure in one or more tyres is too low.
- The tyre has suffered structural damage.
- The wheels were changed or the tyre pressures were changed and the new tyre pressures were not stored Link.
Indicator lamps
One or more of the tyres has suffered slight loss of pressure WARNING!. In addition, the indicator lamp in the instrument cluster will light up. Check and adjust the tyre pressures for all four wheels and store the new tyre pressures via the sound system or MMI*.
One or more of the tyres has suffered severe loss of pressure WARNING!. In addition, the indicator lamp in the instrument cluster will light up. Check and replace the tyre(s) or repair the wheel. Check and adjust the tyre pressures for all four wheels and store the new tyre pressures via the sound system or MMI*.
TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) Tyre pressure ! System malfunction. If TPMS appears and the indicator lamp in the instrument cluster display flashes for approx. one minute and then lights up continuously after you have switched on the ignition or while you are driving, there is a fault in the system. Please contact the nearest qualified workshop as soon as possible.
- If the tyre pressure indicator lamp appears in the instrument cluster display, slow down immediately and avoid any severe braking or steering manoeuvres. As soon as you can do so safely, stop and check the tyres and the tyre pressures.
- It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that the tyre pressures are correct. For this reason you must check the tyre pressures regularly.
- Under certain conditions (e.g. driving at high speeds, on ice and snow or on poor road surfaces) the tyre pressure indicator lamp may not light up immediately.
- Please ask your Audi dealer or qualified workshop whether run flat tyres can be used on your vehicle. Unauthorised use of these tyres can invalidate the vehicle's type approval for use on public roads. Furthermore, this could cause damage to your vehicle and possibly also result in an accident.
Note
- If a malfunction occurs in the ESP/ABS system, the tyre pressure monitoring system will also be out of action.
- When driving with snow chains, a system malfunction can occur.
